Come and Have Breakfast

After appearing to the disciples on the beach and performing the miracle of the 153 fish in the net, Jesus spoke to the disciples. But He didn't say, "Now, what have you just learned about Me/My power/our relationship/trust..."

No.

"Jesus said to them, 'Come and have breakfast.'" (John 21:12 NIV) He nourished their bodies, took care of their physical needs, didn't focus their attention on Himself in any way. He was simply with them, caring for them.

I love this about Jesus. I believe He says things like that to me, too, if I would listen: "Come and take a walk with Me. Come and rest for a while. Come and be filled at the table. Come sit with Me."

  1. I love that, too. I noticed it when He did a few other miracles. I think it was when He raised Jairus' daughter, he told them to get her something to eat. Everyone may have been so discombobulated that they forgot her most basic needs. After lying sick and then dead for a while, she must have been hungry. He had to tell them.

He said it to the disciples, too. "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." They ended up being hounded by crowds, but the idea is the same--he cares for our simplest, most basic needs as well as our deepest, most complicated needs.

Great post. So simple. So personal. So profound.

    So wonderful.
